Checking a list

The check looks at every person in a list before anyone is called. It looks at do-not-call lists, proof of consent, time zone, date of birth, name and the phone number. Nobody is called while it runs. People who pass are marked Ready to call. People who do not are marked Held back, with the reasons.

Only an owner or an admin can run the check, start a list or pause it. Supervisors and compliance staff can read the results.

  1. Open People, then Lists, then the list. (Right after an upload, the check panel is already on the screen.)
  2. Press Check this list. A bar shows how many people are checked so far.
  3. Read the result: “N passed the check. N held back.” Open a reason in the ranked list to see the people it affects.
  4. Press Download the checked list if you want the whole result as a file.
  5. Choose the campaign that should call the list, then press Start calling. Confirm the box that opens.

To stop a running list, press Pause this list. The button then reads Resume calling.

Run the check again after you change something the check looks at: new consent proof, a fixed file, or a change to the do-not-call list. The button changes with the state of the list:

  • Check the rest checks people who were never checked.
  • Check held-back people again checks again the people compliance held back. It never touches people a person on your team rejected by hand.

The check is not a promise. Every call is checked again at the moment it is dialed. See how every call is checked.

A person can be held back for more than one reason, so the reasons can add up to more than the total.

Reason What the screen says What to do
invalid_phone The phone number cannot be read as a US number that can be dialed. Fix the number in your file.
too_young This person is under the minimum age for this campaign. Nothing. It applies only when your rules set a minimum age.
no_dob A date of birth is needed for this campaign and is missing. Add the date of birth to your file.
invalid_dob The date of birth does not make sense. Fix it in your file.
invalid_name The name looks like a placeholder or has odd characters. Correct the name.
no_consent We have no record of this person agreeing to be called, so they cannot be dialed. Add consent columns and import again.
consent_expired The record of this person agreeing to be called is too old. Get fresh consent before calling. Get fresh consent, then import again.
dnc_federal This number is on the federal do-not-call list, so it cannot be dialed. Nothing. Remove the number from your file.
dnc_state This number is on a state do-not-call list, so it cannot be dialed. Nothing.
dnc_internal This person asked to stop, or someone on your team added the number to your own do-not-call list. Nothing, unless a person on your team added it by mistake. See do-not-call.
litigator This number belongs to a known litigator, so it is never dialed. Nothing.
honeypot This number is a trap number, so it is never dialed. Nothing. Tell the vendor who sold you the list.
no_timezone We cannot tell where this person lives, so we cannot tell when it is safe to call. Add the state or ZIP code.
error The calling rules could not be checked just now, so this person is held back. Try again in a moment. Press Check held-back people again later.

Two more counts appear for rows the upload skipped. They are not people in the list:

  • Invalid number: these rows had a phone number we could not read, so they were not added.
  • Duplicate (duplicate_in_file, already_in_list): the same number appeared more than once, so it was added once.

Reasons such as outside calling hours or called enough today are not part of the list check. They apply at dial time. See dial check reasons.

Download the checked list gives a CSV named after the list, ending in -checked.csv. Each row has the person’s details, status, verified, the reasons, attempts and your extra details. Roles that cannot see full numbers get masked numbers and no birth dates.
